ONE.
It all began with an idea. This one is super special to me. I had an idea almost 6 years ago, to create a space for blacks to come together and creatively express themselves. At the time, I remember being so inspired by the diversity of the prestigious VOGUE magazine. There was a photo of African American women in many different shape and sizes. As I stared at the photo, I remember feeling something so deep. I felt a shift from bondage to freedom. I shared this with my friend Jason, our photographer, and he immediately jumped on board.
This project is so much more than just a creative collaboration. It was a celebration of freedom and life. This was an opportunity to celebrate different shades of melanin, various backgrounds, and the beauty of the nations. There were many different nations represented, different languages, and even different religions. It was such a sweet time. It was a time to not only produce content for the sake of art but we wanted to create art that meant something. This was about celebrating the evolution of how far we’ve come, no matter the background. This one is for the strength, resilience and pure beauty of my African American community.
Much love. xoxo
